Blocked Toilets: What We Actually Do

A blocked toilet is usually a quick fix, but not always a simple one.

Most of the time it's a straightforward clog we clear on the spot. Sometimes it's a sign of something further down the line, like a partial blockage in the sewer main or roots affecting the pipe run.

A wipe or a foreign object usually explains the first kind. A pattern of repeat blockages across weeks usually points to the second.

We check both. Clear the toilet, then confirm the rest of the line is actually flowing properly before we call the job done.

That second step is easy to skip and easy to regret. A toilet that clears fine but blocks again a fortnight later usually had the real cause missed the first time.

Six Signs Your Drains Are Asking for Blocked Toilets

A few signs tell you it's more than just one flush gone wrong.

  • Water rising higher than normal before draining slowly
  • Gurgling from the toilet when you run a nearby tap or shower
  • Bubbling in the bowl or connected drains
  • Repeat blockages in the same toilet within days or weeks
  • Bad smell even after flushing
  • Other fixtures backing up around the same time

One toilet blocking occasionally isn't unusual. A pattern across several of these points to something worth a proper look.

If it's the only toilet in the house, it's also worth knowing what to do while you wait. Stop flushing, and avoid pouring anything else down the bowl until we're there.

Older cistern and cistern-linkage parts can also add a second issue on top of a blockage, particularly in bathrooms that haven't been touched since the house was built.

Why Caringbah Properties Call For This

Caringbah bathrooms date from very different decades. Homes from the post-war building boom sit not far from bathrooms fitted out in the 2000s wave of medium-density building.

Older bathrooms in the established houses are frequently still connected to the waste pipework fitted at the time, sized for smaller households and long before wipes and modern hygiene products that don't break down the way toilet paper does.

Around Captain Cook Drive, that mix of older fixtures and heavier modern use is a common combination behind recurring toilet blockages. It's rarely one single cause, more a pipe that was fine for 1960s use struggling with 2020s habits.

Bathrooms fitted in the medium-density boom tend to run larger-diameter, better-graded waste pipe, so blockages there are more often a one-off object than a pattern.

Blocked Toilets Pricing: What Moves the Quote

What a toilet blockage costs to fix comes down to a handful of factors.

Where the blockage sits. A clog right at the bowl clears faster than one further into the drain.

What's causing it. Wipes and foreign objects usually clear with an eel. A deeper drain issue can need jetting or a camera run.

Fixture age. Older toilets and waste pipework in original bathrooms can need more careful handling than newer fittings.

Access. Toilets in ensuites or tight bathroom layouts need a bit more care to work around safely.

Whatever it comes to, you sign off on it first, and that stays the figure right through to the invoice.

How the Job Runs and How Long It Takes

1. Assessment. We check whether it's an isolated clog or a wider drain issue.

2. Clearing. Most blockages clear with a plumber's eel or targeted jetting.

3. Camera check. If there's any doubt, a quick camera pass confirms nothing further along is causing it.

4. Clean-up. We leave the bathroom as we found it.

A single blocked toilet is usually sorted within the hour. A wider drain issue behind it takes longer, and that gets flagged before any extra work begins.

Either way, you'll know what we found and what it took to fix before you're asked to sign off on anything.

Standards and Boundaries, Explained Simply

Toilets and the waste pipework inside your home are your responsibility to maintain.

Any repair or replacement work on that pipework has to be carried out by a licensed plumber to meet NSW standards.

We're licensed under NSW plumbing licence #275278C, so whatever the job needs, it's done properly and compliantly.

If a blockage turns out to be further down in the shared sewer connection, that changes who's responsible, and we'll explain exactly where that line sits before any repair goes ahead.

What You Get When We Do Your Blocked Toilets

You get a plumber who checks the whole picture, not just the bowl in front of them.

We're licensed and proud of the recognition that's come with years of doing the work properly, including Best & Brightest wins in 2019, 2024 and 2025, People's Choice Best & Brightest 2025, and a 2026 Australian Business Awards finalist placing.

Sydney neighbours have left us over 1000 five-star reviews, and every job is backed the same way regardless of size.

That includes the small, annoying jobs like a single blocked toilet, not just the bigger callouts. A quick job still gets the same care and the same warranty.

Servicing Caringbah and the Suburbs Around It

Blocked toilets often turn up alongside a wider blocked drain repair or drain cleaning job, and we handle both under the one call-out.

We cover Caringbah and into Caringbah South, Miranda, Cronulla, Gymea Bay and Sylvania, so the same team is available if the issue crops up somewhere else you look after too.

If you're managing more than one property, keeping the same plumber across all of them means less back-and-forth explaining what's already been checked.

Common questions

Your Blocked Toilets FAQs

Is there a warranty on blocked toilets work?

Every job carries our lifetime labour warranty. If it's not right, we come back. No questions, no cost.

What's the cost of blocked toilets in Sydney?

A single-fixture clog costs less to sort than a blockage tied to a wider drain issue. Either way you're quoted on the spot, with no call-out fee attached to finding out.

Can you come out for blocked toilets on a weekend?

Yes. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are treated the same as any other day, and a licensed plumber picks up the call.

Will you show me proof the drain is clear?

Yes. A camera pass once it's cleared lets you see the result for yourself rather than take it on trust.

What about strata or commercial blocked toilets jobs?

We do. From single-dwelling homes to the apartment blocks around the station, we work with owners, tenants, landlords and strata managers on toilet blockages of any scale.

Should I attempt to clear it myself before calling?

A plunger is worth trying on a single blocked toilet. If it doesn't clear, or if other drains in the house start acting up too, stop there and call us before you make it worse.
